The architecture of the software is based on the client – server method. The company has developed NoMachine NX technology that was up to version 4 mostly covered by the GNU General Public License. The primary purpose of this technology is the optimization of the X protocol, but it can be used to encrypt the Microsoft RDP and VNC protocol via tunneling method. The NX technology provides secure, encrypted traffic using SSH protocol. In addition it eliminates one of the major shortcomings of the X protocol, and that is security.

By performing the compression of a given protocol, it enables the feasibility of remote connection at a very low speed via internet (dial-up). This technology enables, via the Internet, with X display protocol (abbreviated X), having the characteristic of Unix-like systems.
